Your New Music Teacher

My name is Gabriel and I was born to teach.

Ever since my youth, I had the ability to explain, with ease, any topic I deeply understood; even if it was of a complicated nature.

This is because I knew how to ask the right questions...

In school, I found that teachers could answer questions, but they couldn't always make me understand the answer because they would explain it with logic I had yet to learn.

So I would ask more questions about the logic they used in their answer...

Which would raise MORE questions about the logic they used to answer that...

This would go on and on until I would finally get to the bottom of my question.

Despite the tiresome process, by the end, I had achieved a complete understanding of my question and far more:

An unwavering foundation of knowledge I could trust.

I'm not talking about music...

While it may seem I'm talking about music... I'm not.

I was talking about questions I asked before ever becoming a musician.

In math class.

This is why I always say "Music is Math." Because when I applied the same mindset of pursuing knowledge in math, to music...

...Something clicked.

I had developed the same unwavering foundation of knowledge I had with math, but with music.

I used this to excel in the art of improvisation and jazz, and proceeded to become the lead trombone player for the Colorado All-State Jazz Band my senior year of highschool.

While this was a great accomplishment, I played music because it was my form of self expression. Not for the competition.

So I kept going...

And I landed a full ride scholarship to study jazz at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

And I kept going...

I studied jazz with the students and professors of boulder and learned more than I could possibly imagine, not only about music and jazz, but about people my age, and one of the most painful lessons everyone learns eventually in life.

The Lesson of Love and Addiction

I may not have known the difference between the two before that chapter of my life, but after learning once, it's impossible to forget...

...But I kept going...

...And when I was at my lowest, I met someone that was honest to me, even when I only wanted to lie to myself. Someone that when it was hardest to see, would remind me that the money in life wasn't my wealth.

Someone that loved me...

Someone known as 3...

The Son, the Spirit Holy,

and the Father were the key.

So I followed Him.

And I realized I couldn't wait 4 years to take the path he wanted me to take.

So I made a decision many would deem unwise, and I dropped out of college and surrendered my full ride scholarship...

...And I wouldn't change a thing.

Because I began restlessly pursuing my passions and finding my purpose in life and it led me here.

To pursue more knowledge and to be a leader to those who are lost and seek an outlet to express themselves in an uncontrollable world.
